Public Safety Advisory Committee
The Concord Township Public Safety Advisory Committee has been developed to advise the Board of Supervisors on public safety issues in the township. The Committee will forcus on the implementation of a Town Watch program, increasing awareness of public safety, developing ideas to promote communication, and reviewing long term initiatives for the future of the township.

Mission Statement: Make people aware of crime problems, then address those problems through education with the goal of reduction and an overall goal of increased safety.

Concord CARES: Crime Awareness + Reduction Education = SAFETY

In response to recent incidents, residents' concerns, and ideas discussed at a community safety meeting in March 2010, the Board of Supervisors has created a Public Safety Advisory Committee  comprised of residents:
  • Fred Karcher
  • Ed Nolan
  • Alan Phillips
  • Ray Shore
  • Mark Sereni
  • Craig Williams

  • Together this group of residents represents over 100 years of public safety experience. Supervisors Colleen Morrone and Kevin O'Donoghue serve as liaisons, with other Supervisors serving if needed. The Committee now meets every other month to assist in organizing a Town Watch program, increasing awareness, communications, and developing long-term goals/initiatives. Recommendations will be made to the Board of Supervisors.

The PSAC has been working toward setting up an independent Town Watch program. More news will be forthcoming.

    OTHER SAFETY INFORMATION

    Town Watch Programs
Safety-minded neighbors help create safe neighborhoods. Town Watch volunteers serve as trained "eyes and ears" for the police department. They routinely patrol their neighborhood streets, keeping alert for suspicious activity. Town Watch volunteers do not confront suspects; instead they are asked to immediately report the suspicious activity to local police or a base station via cellular phones or two-way radios.

    Citizens' Police Academy
Citizens are taught first aid, CPR, and firearms safety. The basic class is 15 weeks in length and the advanced class is seven weeks. The basic class consists of classes on hiring procedures, pre-patrol procedures, DUI, investigation, live scan fingerprinting and digital photography, a visit to the 911 center, a canine demonstration, fire marshal, crises negotiations, martial arts self defense, State Police Mounted Unit, Tactical Response Team (SWAT), victims organizations, white collar crime, Identify theft, composite sketching, State Police helicopter, court room Procedures, outlaw biker gangs, ride-a-long program, and graduation. For more information call 610-876-6142, extension 11 (Sandra Fuller) or 610-876-6143 (Chief Eller). <p>

    Camp Cadet
Cadets learn the real world of law enforcement. The Camp Cadet experience includes an interactive tour of the judicial system and how it works in our democracy. Cadets learn about drug enforcement (including a live demonstration of the K-9 officer's skills), they sit on both sides of the courtroom, meet with the judge and district attorney and learn about fingerprinting, mug shots, and probation. The intricacies of the system and its many levels are made all the more real because cadets experience them first-hand in the courtroom, in the jail, and at the state level.
